The Wasp season has begun (although slowly) it will not be long before a couple of wasps flying in and out from a tile or airbrick will become a 10,000 strong colony. If you start to see this one in, one out behaviour then it is important to get this sorted earlier rather than later. BE CAREFUL wasps do not ‘swarm’ and will not generally be in any vast numbers currently. These would generally be Bees if they were behaving in this manner. We do not do anything with bees and you must contact a Beekeeper for advice.
To construct their nests, they will chew up small shreds of bark and they turn it into a pulp using their saliva to produce the ‘paper mache’ nests. While wasps do not transmit or carry any harmful diseases the venom from their stings can cause an allergic reaction in humans which can be incredibly dangerous.
When a wasp ‘stings’ or is killed the scent from the venom will alert other wasps to become more aggressive as they feel threatened. It is always best to call in a professional to handle and treat a wasp nest, we would not recommend that you tackle this yourself.
