Rodents are coming

The winter unfortunately is on its way and after a busy insect season we are now preparing for the invasion of rodents into commercial and domestic properties across our counties.

Due to early harvests and the fields being stripped of the rodents food source earlier than usual we expect activity to begin and in fact our August call rate for rodent pests is a reflection of that as the increase is two fold on last year.

Attending sites and carrying out baiting is no longer the only accepted option, pest control companies are encouraged to seek alternative control methods and offer services that will aid in better long term control as opposed to a quick fix.

Removing rubbish, food sources and ensuring drains are running freely where practical to do so is important, these will attract rodents to site and if not removed provide enough sustainable food in many cases for a population to flourish.

Proofing of access and ingress points is something you will be advised on at every treatment as we attempt to identify why and where the rodents may be coming in from, often under tiles or damaged cavities, pipework access points or broken sewer systems.

Access and harbourage can be noted in many areas, this can be in compost heaps, hedgerows, under old pallets and rubble and often we find rodents using plants such as wisterias and creepers which allow perfect cover and a ladder into your loft.

Ensuring a well proofed building and a well kept environment will go a long way to keeping rodents from your door.
