Rabbit Control

Preparation and Advice

Your most important advice is to call our Wildlife management team to arrange a survey of the site and establish the extent and location of the rabbit problem. We will need to identify, the meadows, grasslands, and underground warrens that rabbits are residing.
Permission needs to be granted by the landowner or farmer before a control programme can commence.
Sometimes permits may be required, and depending on the location we may need exclusion notices and inform local residents as a matter of courtesy due to shoots taking place at night or just before dawn.
The control of rabbits is a law passed in under the Pest Act 1954, it was brought in to make further provisions with respect to the destruction or control of rabbits.
Burrows can be detrimental to building foundations and structures, rabbits can and will devastate crops, flower beds and lawns
It is advised that any rabbit infestations noted on sites are eradicated at an early stage to eliminate costs which can be quite extensive and where practical to do so rabbit proof fencing introduced.
Quite often the initial costs of culling and proofing can be high but if put into place correctly could result in years of free infestations on site.
As stated above the control of rabbits is law in this country and any landlord or owner is responsible to show action to reduce populations with respect to rabbits living on their properties and if those burrows are affecting neighbouring properties.

Our Experienced local pest controllers have had great success in the past and continue to do so with culls via use of Pulsar Helion XP50 Thermal imaging and PARD NV007V Night vision rifle scopes, in addition Ruger American Bolt Action 17HMR and Ruger 10/22 22LR with silencer rifles.
Other control methods we can use are Gassing compounds, catches with traps and ferreting where accessible to do so, these can all be carried out as a practical control method.
As there are quite a few restrictions and technical aspects involved in preparation for culling we advise a free of charge survey is carried out by our wildlife team before we commence any control methods, also note we only carry out rabbit control commercially but are happy to discuss concerns you have over a phone call or email correspondence.

Signs you have Rabbits

Obviously more often than not you will see live rabbits particularly at dawn and dusk grazing and active, the problem only comes when identifying exactly where they are originating from.
As they are herbivores and have a main diet of leafy and grassy foods it makes them adaptable to many locations.
They have predators such as foxes, humans and birds of prey so you’ll often locate the burrows in thick set shrubbery or along covered ditches where they have moderate protection from above and from foxes directly being able to access the burrow with ease often having to fight through brambles to succeed.
Scrapping under fences leading to and from their feeding grounds are common and droppings will be in abundance as they produce 200-300 a day.

Rabbit Facts

Rabbits were originally from South West France and Northern Spain; they were introduced to the UK in the 12th century by William the conqueror. They were set in private burrows and used as an abundant food source for the Royal Courts, the issue they found was the excessive breeding made numbers impossible to control and hence many let free into the wild leading to wide spread populations across the Country.

Wild rabbits have greyish- brown fur. They often have a white under marking under their tail which can be seen when they are running.
It is possible for the duration of a wild rabbit to live up to 9 years but as harsh as the wild can be they often succumb with 1-2 years of birth on average.
Rabbits breed between mid-February and continue into the late summer, the breeding will then only reduce due to the lack of food source available in the winter months. The female rabbit will have several litters a year with a gestation period of 30 days and a litter size of 4-8 each time. With these figures in mind, you can see they can cause immediate and huge infestations within months of arriving and setting up home. To accommodate this Myxomatosis became a populace control method.
Myxomatosis is widespread in UK wild rabbits, it was introduced in Australia in 1950 to control the raging populations then spread to France and Europe, it was first found in Scotland in 1954, it’s a virus spread by biting insects such as fleas, mosquitoes and mites.

Good Value for money

When I saw I had to pay £200, I was a bit shocked, but didn't realise they would make three visits over six weeks!! - Plus supply all the poison and provide so much advice.
This represents great value and the guys are very friendly and I am very happy with the results.
My mice are not completely gone, but they are out of the house now and you can't really control what the neighbours do, but at least I now know whats happening and can stop them getting to the places I don't want them.
The service is so fast, I got a visit the very next day after I reported the problem, great company, highly recommended.
