Bird Control

Preparation and Advice

The best way to control and get rid of birds is to deter them and exclude them from a location. Birds such as pigeons and gulls need a food source and a nesting or perching area.
1) Stop feeding birds or remove food sources such a spillages or access to waste from bins.
2) Prevent them from nesting or roosting – and this is where you may need skilled pest controllers from our bird control management team. They are highly skilled, are trained to used specialist access equipment and tools to carry out this type of work.
3) If you have a pigeon problem or a seagull infestation then call us now to carry out a free of charge survey, we cover all of East Anglia including Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.
4) Commercially fouling on buildings to include windows, doorways, signage and roof lines can not only be detrimental to the structure due to the acidic nature of the droppings but also extremely unsightly and can carry an unwanted smell certainly not a great advert for your business or property.
The droppings themselves carry dangerous pathogens such as psittacosis and E.coli that are transmissible to humans via contact and when dried particles become airborne can lead to humans respiratory complaints. This can be transmitted through air-conditioning units and open windows.

Treatment

A professional approach to control, eradication and removal of pigeons is a paramount. Not only do we understand the legalities around control we have access to the most up to date methods and our background, experience and industry recognition makes us one of the leading Bird Control companies in East Anglia carrying out works for NHS, Local Authorities, Leading High Street Food Chains, Housing Associations, Churches and other Public Buildings.
All services will be quoted via survey and a report which will include supporting images such as nesting sites, cleaning and fouling issues and the recommended bird proofing and prevention works to be carried out.
We have a wide range of services available to our clients, spiking of ledges, chimney pots, guttering, roof ridges and any roosting areas via use of a range of UV stabilised polycarbonate spikes or if preferred stainless steel spikes with a polycarbonate base giving exceptional resistance to all weathers. Spikes can be installed with screws and raw plugs but more commonly with silirub and fix all sealant adhesive.
We have found over the last decade that the prevention of pigeons or any avian pest accessing under solar panels is becoming a major concern, the increasing introduction of the panels endears them to bird nesting sites as they have protection from the weather and the access points can be varied but generally set at and 3-5 inches which is ideal for the pest to harbour within, thankfully there is a humane highly successful proofing method to eliminate this issue in the guise of solarguard lite or solarguard adjustable plastic or stainless steel based spikes. Once the nesting material is removed from under the panels the spikes are sealed against the metal plates stopping any further infestations arising.
Pin (or post) and wire system might be of use, this allows coverage over a deeper area and isn’t as visible at first viewing. It’s designed to cover ledges such as parapets where spiking has limited coverage and requires multiple rows of spikes which then becomes costly and unsightly. Additional springs for tension and stainless-steel UV stabilised clear nylon coated to 0.7mm finish will be needed to complete the system.
Finally, it certainly wouldn’t be uncommon for anyone to wonder through a town or city and not see the introduction of bird netting systems. The nets come in 3 main sizes to stop differentiating bird species not only pigeons. They are attached via numerous fixings and with the right experience and knowledge can overcome any difficult proofing situation.
All our services can also include hygiene cleaning of bird waste materials and sterilizing of sites leaving the environment free from debris, dirt and any dangerous pathogens associated with this pest, we are a fully licenced waste removal company so if required we can take the waste away for disposal.
There isn’t really any situation where we cannot produce a service or system to fix your pigeon or bird problem, if you don’t see a system in our brief explanations above that you feel might suit you better it is more than likely we can offer a solution so please feel free to call our team now

The acidic nature of the droppings can cause damage to flues and chimneys is domestic situations causing possible issues with carbon monoxide and high volume of droppings and nesting materials can also cause blockages in guttering that lead to water leaks from overflows causing dampness.
We would advise that any bird control or cleaning works due to the high risks are left to the professionals who have access to correct cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment.

Please see these videos of work that our professional skilled bird proofing team have carried out recently which includes solar panel proofing, bird spike deterrent systems including use of powered access machines and bird netting installations.

Signs you have Birds

Where the pigeon will rest, roost and live can vary particularly during the day where they will perch in areas monitoring for food, this is where we find heavy droppings and debris as they sit and wait.
Visually the levels of infestations of feral pigeons can be gauged by sight as more often than not the nests can be seen in trees and voids where they make themselves obvious with noise and activity throughout the day often returning to nest sites to continue building and grooming their young.
Often, we will see droppings below signage at shop fronts and along high streets that can cause a slip hazard, this is a concern for councils and landlords due to them being liable for any incidents.
The appearance of insect pests and dampness caused by damage to roofs and guttering would also indicate that at times it could be caused by a bird nest and this is something as a property owner you can try and eliminate by inspecting thoroughly throughout.

Bird Facts

Feral pigeons are known as ‘flying rats’ due to the sheer amounts we are now seeing both rurally and in urban locations causing damage, disease and destruction of crops and food sources leading to financial losses.
All birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and this includes Feral pigeons. It is illegal to interfere or destroy them and their eggs unless under licence. Where they are causing a risk to human health a licence can be sort and actions taken.
Breeding is typically carried out between March and July but they are well known to breed all year round. They will have up to four broods per year normally comprising of 2/3 eggs that are incubated for approximately 17-19 days. The chicks (named squabs) will fledge and leave the nest after around 30 days of hatching.
Pigeons are well known to reuse nests and build upon them each year so its worth noting that an old abandon nest isn’t necessarily not going to be used again, if it’s seen to be unused and accessible we would advise it is disposed of.
Closely linked to nesting materials and droppings are a whole host of insects and vertebrae pests to include, mites, flea, flies, mice and rats. It is also common that clothes moth and carpet beetle infest bird nests which in turn their larvae will damage natural materials within properties such as clothes, curtains and carpets which has detrimental financial costs to the property owner.
The acidic nature of bird droppings can cause damage to flues and chimneys is domestic situations causing possible issues with carbon monoxide and high volume of droppings and nesting materials can also cause blockages in guttering that lead to water leaks from overflows causing dampness.

Good Value for money

When I saw I had to pay £200, I was a bit shocked, but didn't realise they would make three visits over six weeks!! - Plus supply all the poison and provide so much advice.
This represents great value and the guys are very friendly and I am very happy with the results.
My mice are not completely gone, but they are out of the house now and you can't really control what the neighbours do, but at least I now know whats happening and can stop them getting to the places I don't want them.
The service is so fast, I got a visit the very next day after I reported the problem, great company, highly recommended.
